A Christian Deposit-Taking SACCO in Nairobi is hiring an Internal Auditor on a performance-based, renewable three-year contract.
This role reports to the Audit Committee of the Board and is responsible for leading the audit function to align with the SACCO’s strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the SACCO’s audit strategy, policies, and programs to mitigate financial, operational, and business risks.
- Oversee auditing of all functions, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and statutory requirements.
- Manage the SACCO’s audit risk profile and propose annual audit activities in collaboration with departmental heads.
- Conduct independent audit assurance reviews (e.g., post-implementation reviews, major proposals) and special investigations as assigned by the CEO or Board.
- Recommend and contribute to solutions that improve internal control and operational efficiency based on audit findings.
- Ensure audit clients develop and commit to action plans with clear timelines and ownership for addressing control weaknesses.
- Track and report monthly on the progress of high-risk audit action implementation, following up to ensure quick resolution.
- Prepare management reports on audit activity progress and action plan tracking.
- Submit quarterly audit reports to Management and the Board.
- Maintain the independence and objectivity of the internal audit function.
- Liaise with the Supervisory Committee and external auditors.
Qualifications & Competencies
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration from a recognized university.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) (K) or its equivalent from a recognized institution, and a Member of ICPAK or a relevant professional body.
- Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience, preferably in SACCO, banking, or microfinance.
- Detail-oriented, strong communication and interpersonal skills, independent, analytical, results-oriented, high integrity, and excellent problem-solving abilities.
